Nemesis as Prayer for the People in our Troubled Time

June 21, 2009

The well-credentialed author of the book, Nemesis — named for the Greek Goddess who used Her righteous anger to destroy arrogance, hubris and oppression — suggests that the American republic has gone down so far an imperialist path since World War II, the necessary corrective workings  of Nemesis will be financial ruin (if we can avoid nuclear war).  Since the book’s publication a couple of years ago, the increasingly negative globalization of dominant political economies — and today’s headlines — reflect a time of challenge so great we might all unite in prayer or consciousness beyond religious and secular viewpoints, beyond blue and red, beyond our own opinions.

But how to unite for ending oppression in our time?  Being American by birth, let me start with the people I know best.

Americans  have long been praying (some would say preying)  — something all male-dominant systems seem to share in political common.  Our versions of God as male deity don’t seem to be helping or bringing an end to evil; neither does false hope for believers only to be beamed up during armageddon. For that reason, why not try praying that Nemesis end the reign of global oppression — and clear the way for an end to the domination and submission modeled at its roots in the gender war that’s the longest war of all.

Wrap up your invocation to Nemesis in the name of Jesus and the power of Christ if you want; the red-letter reported words of biblical gospels show Jesus cursing political hypocrites with “woe.”

Judaism and other mainstream religions similarly have plenty in their history to allow the cursing of oppressors  — all in the self-defensive  name of freedom.

Spin it for the people and not for the politicians, and we might use our religious heritage to help free ourselves.   Harriett Tubman did that with her Underground Railroad.  Can we affort to do less?

As one image of  female body type that’s not a pornification of culture, Nemesis as Goddess has been pictured  like this:

The world of CoverGirl Ellen’s Ex

Check the billboard in the “normal” landscape, and ask yourself:  Whose  faces, whose bodies are normalized as the subordinated class to be what “gentlemen”  want?  Do you ever see billboard images of male faces in make-up, men in come-hither  poses for sex clubs, even so much as silhouettes of a nude male body in broadcast on the public-street space where you run errands?  Talk about the insanity of normality.

Today’s social commentary against People magazine’s backdrop:  “When they were together, [Anne] Heche and [Ellen] DeGeneres were considered the country’s most prominent lesbian couple.  [Jude’s commentary:  The Heche-DeGeneres relationship ended, triggered in part by Heche’s life to that point dealing with what male-dominant society labeled as mental illness following Heche’s reports of sexual abuse and deception at the hands of her father. Anne’s father, Donald Heche, was a choir director in a Baptist church who frequented gay bars at night. Heche found out about her father’s double life when he was dying of AIDS and she was only 12 years old.]

Heche described herself as “insane,” according to ABCNEWS.com. [Jude’s commentary:  Thus the socially high-profile Heche, by personal life history programmed with the man-God religion of Baptist He, Him and hymn which predisposes women to accept “the word” of all male authority figures, accepted the male label “insane” as directed at herself personally, instead of at society in general.  She bought into the book of male-dominant psychiatry and male-dominant insanity legalism as if only an individual matter.  Heche described her efforts to structure an alternative reality in a publicized interview, efforts that to a caring person would seem creative under her cultural and social circumstances.]

“[Heche] believed she was two people. One was Anne Heche, The other was Celestia, who was from another planet and spoke in a different language directly with God.” [Jude dude commentary: Cultural He, Him and hymn conditioning made it mentally inconceivable for Heche to rely upon Goddess (as a mental construct of iconic female-form liberator from the man-God made in man’s image as her higher power).  She could not conceive of a Goddess/female liberator for herself even in her rather creative “insane” fantasy life which temporarily allowed her to escape the dissonance of hateful hypocrisy from a father who outwardly normalized “our Father” as a Baptist choir director while secretly having one-night stands with gay men, his double life divulged to Heche only when he died of AIDS before his daughter was a teen-ager.]  [Original source, Stephen Silverman, People magazine, 2001; social commentary by Jude]

Small wonder I propose celibacy for all men, everywhere, until dominance, war and duplicity cease and desist.

What’s a Super-Suit’s gal to do …

June 6, 2009

You  can see before and after photos of  greasy and not-so-greasy gams  when  Gwyneth Paltrow appeared on the Tonight Show (gams rhymes with hams, and we all know where hams come from):

Gwyneth’s Greasy Gams – Goddess: celebrity moms – omg! on Yahoo

It’s not sick (as in culturally creepy) enough that any culturally notable “she” like Paltrow is expected to appear in American public culture with more touchable body on view than men typically need to show.  The 180 degrees from sick that’s still sick (i.e.,  culturally creepy) in patriarchal Islamic culture would literally cover up her thinking-instrument head and shroud her body as if dead from any contact with the natural world.

But I’m American and posting this post as a post-Christian not a Muslim (thank Goddess to disdain the multi-culti nonsense that refuses to call misogyny the woman-hating it is), so check out today’s online hysterics about  Gwyneth Paltrow’s legs.  The “greasy gams,” not the prodigious talent.  In context of  last season’s blockbuster movies, Oscar-winner Paltrow  played an iconic feminine subordinate gal putting her own life at risk to support a Super-Suit Iron Man’s exploits.  (She wore perfectly a slinky backless dress bought by her boss the Super-Suit.  She deadpanned the weak lines of script for her underwritten character with outrageous humor.  She acted heroically in high heels.)

Today’s online Gwyneth buzz irreverently links the hubbub about Paltrow’s gams  to  Goddess  in the same week  man-made religion’s big-three God (Islam, Judaism, Christianity) was front and center the Obama news as if that God has ever been about peace instead of piece.

Today’s trivialization of Goddess and woman occurs in context of the  beautiful Gwyneth (whose extraordinary good looks few could ever hope to achieve), who is also an actor of genius,  a mother and otherwise gifted.  If Paltrow is not a woman to be respected instead of trivialized —  then any normal woman might wonder, beneath being the “good sport” she’s constantly being asked to be despite man’s trivialization of her own life and womankind in general — who is?

Obama’s mankind, the sons of God … and to every man “a female”

June 4, 2009

Even if men of different male-dominant “God” faiths make peace among themselves, the longest war by the language here depicted is slated to continue against womankind — men’s rules, men’s game, every man to have “a female” on men’s terms.   It’s  not a world any self-respecting woman ought to accept.  Why aren’t feminists calling Obama on this?  He’s better looking than Bush, but, hey, he’s sounding as much like a misogynist behind the smile as his presidential predecessor.

[Excerpts on this blog for social commentary; note the Islamic head-scarved woman and ask yourself who in her or his right mind would choose  always to wear a cumbersome head-scarf in public if not for the cultural rules and social pressures Islamic men have imposed.]

NEW YORK – President Barack Obama showed respect for Islam by quoting from the Quran in his speech Thursday but did so in a way meant to resonate with Christians and Jews as well….

“The Holy Quran tells us, ‘Mankind, we have created you male and a female. And we have made you into nations and tribes so that you may know one another,'” Obama said in the Cairo address. “The Talmud tells us, ‘The whole of the Torah is for the purpose of promoting peace.’ The Holy Bible tells us, ‘Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.'”

Whatever men may say, the God described has never been about peace but piece.  Goddess help us all.

Governator not a good enough actor to conceal his sick glee … The Goddess Nemesis says, “I’ll be back”

May 29, 2009

Check out his facial expression for yourself.  You can see the Governator’s  barely concealed sick glee at doing something that makes no financial sense whatsoever.  His plan, however,  does support man’s longest war against womankind by putting at risk  women’s autonomous “public” park connections (free of dependence on the wealth of a husband or male “benefactor”) to  Mother Nature.  When economies falter and folks lose homes and yards of their own, free public parks would be one necessary last bastion of  hope for nature-and-nurture connection.  If you cared about people, then upholding the affordable domain of “public” parks would be antidote to the man-made socially sadistic urban blight and traffic gridlock that has become most of today’s California  —

Facing a growing state budget deficit, that could reach nearly $24 billion, AP – Facing a growing state budget deficit, that could reach nearly $24 billion, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger … [Socially critiqued excerpts from mainstream, man-stream, male-stream, malevolent, male-violent  media, as typical on this blog]

By SAMANTHA YOUNG, Associated Press Writer Samantha Young, Associated Press Writer 1 hr 30 mins ago

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s budget cuts could mean the closing of up to 220 state parks, among them the home of the world’s tallest tree and other attractions that draw millions of visitors. …

“This is a worst-case scenario,” said Roy Sterns, a spokesman at the state parks department. “If we can do less than this, we will try. But under the present proposal, this is it.” …

The proposal has angered conservationists and some Democrats in the Legislature, who say California’s parks are treasured spots that help the state and local economy.

“State parks draw tourism to California,” State Parks Foundation president Elizabeth Goldstein said. “This proposal makes the budget situation worse.”

The foundation estimates the state gets a $2.35 return for every dollar it spends on parks….”

Images, Parody, Social Criticism

My images on this blog will generally come from CA and TX, with an emphasis on Los Angeles (belly of the beast, beautiful beach, LA the extraordinary).  Check “About” for an example of my images on this blog for parody of war and social criticism of man’s longest war, the war against womankind.

If not an image from the internet being critiqued, parodied,  socially criticized or otherwise publicly commented upon, all  images including the blog banner are my own raw-image, digital-camera work (never Photoshopped).  If you want to link to this blog for free viewing by others, you’re most welcome.

Where’s the Goddess Kali or the Mythic Spiderwoman when we need Her?  We instead see little boys wearing Spiderman suits.  What’s left of Infinite Womankind in popular consciousness resides mainly behind metaphoric bars, devoid of righteous fury about man’s unacknowledged war against womankind.
